Domestic robot market share is only about 30%. Core technology relies on imports.

The Central Economic Work Conference proposed to support technological transformation and equipment update. Industrial robots are a tool for technological transformation of enterprises. What is the current status of China's industrial development? How to performe in the future?

China's industrial robot industry has great potential for development

At present, industrial robots dominate the robot industry and are most valued. Wang Natural, a member of the Chinese automatiion technology researcher of Shenyang Institute of Automation, believes that China's demand for robots will grow rapidly, for which  is the increase in labor costs and machine substitution can not only improve production efficiency, but also save costs in the long run.

In recent years, the demand for robots in China has increased significantly. In 2013, China became the world's largest robot market, accounting for about a quarter of global sales in 2014. Driven by market demand, China's robot industry has developed rapidly. Qu Daokui, director of the China Robot Industry Alliance, said that there are beyond 30 large robot development zones in the China's largest robot development and research district, more than 100 listed companies with robot concepts, and thousands of robot-related enterprises.

Domestic robot market share is only about 30%, and core technology relies on imports.

There is still great potential for the development of China's robot industry. In the world, the robot popularity is usually measured by the number of robots per 10,000 workers. At present, there are 23 robots per 10,000 workers in China, and more than 300 robots in Japan and South Korea.

Robot technology and application have important strategic value in the future international competition. And the major countries in the world have introduced policies to encourage the development of the robot industry. For example, the United States released a robot development route report, placing robots on the same level as the Internet; the EU launched the world's largest civilian robot development program, and China is also formulating the “13th Five-Year” development plan for the robot industry. Made in China 2025 lists robots and high-end CNC machine as the top ten key areas that need to be vigorously promoted to achieve breakthroughs

Core technology and key components rely on imports

At present, China's domestic robot market share only accounts for about 30%, mainly in the low end of the industry, and high-end robots rely heavily on imports. According to experts, the gap between China's industrial robots and developed countries' is mainly in core technologies and key components. Most of key components like the precision reducers, controllers, servo systems and high-performance drives rely on imports, and the cost account for more than 70% of the overall production cost. The cost of purchasing core components is higher than the overall price of the same robots abroad, which makes it difficult for domestic companies to win in international competition.

"The upstream of the robot industry is the core component, which is equivalent to the "brain" and basically dependent on imports. The midstream is the robot trunk, which is the "body" of the robot. And the downstream is the system integrator with 95% of the domestic enterprises currently concentrated in This link" spoken from Qu Daokui that hundreds of large and small companies in China are homogenizing and expanding in the low-end market. Therefore, China's robot industry urgently needs to comprehensively break through the key components and core technologies, consolidate the industrial base, and achieve sustainable and healthy development.

It is necessary to occupy the next generation of robot development opportunities.

Right now, information technology, especially the Internet, artificial intelligence and manufacturing industries are deeply integrated, and the robot industry is entering the "2.0 era." Qu Daokui believes that it is currently at a critical turning point. "Robots have not only been used in manufacturing, but also in various fields of human life. All kinds of robots have gone all the way to the market. Therefore, traditional robots have entered the era of low added value, which need to be upgraded, and new robot products are gradually maturing. "

"The development of artificial intelligence and Internet technology will provide a powerful "back brain" for robots to improve the level of intelligence." Wang Natural introduced that with the development of materials science, artificial muscles can be used to make "soft robots"; it will be possible to make some behaviors of robots directly controlled by people through brain science, and to produce robot with human life through life science.

Experts said that the gap between domestic traditional industrial robots and foreign roots is large. One ly through accelerating the intelligence layout and deeply integrating robots with IT technology, big data, internet, and artificial intelligence so as to grasp the next generation robot development opportinunity can we have the possibility to realize the catch-up.
