World CNC machine tool technology and production make a development together in both directions

  Since the United States produced the first CNC lathe in the world in late 1950s, the machine tool manufacturing industry has entered the era of numerical control. China also produced the first generation of CNC machine tools in the 1960s, but when China entered the era, everyone knows . When we went to see the level of CNC machine tools in the world in the 1980s, the gap was that of 20 years. In fact, there is still hope for catching up, but the state-owned factories are always doing nothing but killing time. In the 1990s, when we went to see that of world level, the gap was 30 years. China was imitating the path of the Soviet Union before the reform and opening up. What is the path of the Soviet Union? For example, when producing a shaft, the way Soviet Union adopts is to build a special production line with multiple dedicated machine tools, whose advantage is that the batch is easily enlarging, but once the parameters of this axis are changed, this line will be scrapped, and the production staff will have nothing to do. In the 1960s and 1980s, a state-owned factory produced a product unchanged for decades. After the 1980s, when the commodity economy was engaged, these factories could not adapt to the market quickly, and the operation was difficult. In the 1990s, a large number of bankruptcies occurred and a large number of employees were laid off.


   Nowadays, there are production in bulk and small batch of an order. Regardless of which type it is, as long as your equipment is numerical control, it will adapt to the production quickly. The road to professional machine tools has come to an end, and the path that the West chosed is not the same as the former Soviet Union's. The Toshiba incident was the sale of several five-axis CNC milling machines from the Soviet Union to the Soviet Union. As a result, the manufacturing level of Soviet Union was improved to a higher grade so that the US Sonar can not hear the submarine sound, therefore, the United States decided to punish Toshiba company. It can also be seen from the story that the machine tool manufacturing industry in the former Soviet Union is left behind, let alone ours.


  Although the United States has produced the world's first CNC machine tool, the development of CNC machine tools still needs to count Germany, who is originally the world's number one in terms of machinery. CNC machine tools are nothing more than mechatronics. There is no problem in German machinery. The rest is something about electronic systems. The electronic system industry in Germany is inherently strong, therefore, Germany was the leader of the machine tool industry in 1980s.


  Why is the United States not a major manufacturer of CNC machine tools? This is related to the people who set the industrial policy, expensive labor force, and more cost-effective purchase compared to manufacturing at that time. Machine tools are industries that need large investments and technical accumulation, but slow results and low returns, which is not very suitable for American situation. However, later the United States discovered that machine tools belong to strategic materials, and many manufacturing can not be performed without it like aircraft, artillery, tanks, and warships. Therefore, they have re-established policies and fostered some machine tool factories, stipulating that some units can only buy domestic equipment, expensive but they  have to buy, which has reserved some CNC machine tool industry for the United States.


  In the past years, the CNC machine tools manufacturing capacity in Korea and Taiwan was slightly stronger than that in the mainland, but the level was almost similar. They also introduced technology development in the 1990s, but south Korea was much better because of its own CNC system that has been commercialized, but we donot trust its CNC machine  when considering import from Korea, therefore, the CNC machine tools should satisfy our trquirements. There are two main CNC machine tools in Korea—Daewoo and Hyundai. Daewoo currently hasnot had a joint venture in China. Taiwan machine tools are similar to that of mainland in general. We produce the mechanical parts. However, their machine tools are quite poor-quality, and have a short life span, currently leaving a very bad impression on the mainland. In fact, theirs are better than our domestic ones. But how can we can still tolerate our poor quality.  The machine tools in Taiwan are bought with US dollars. If it does not perform well, the buyer will be extremely angry. Some of Taiwan's most important machine tool factories have already planned to move their factories to mainland, most of them in Shanghai. These factories are currently under the banner of "made in domestic" in the domestic competition.


    The development of China's numerical control technology started in the 1950s through the introduction of numerical control technology during the "Sixth Five-Year Plan" period, the organization and digestion of "scientific and technological breakthroughs" during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period, China's numerical control technology and numerical control industry have made considerable achievements. Especially in recent years, China's numerical control industry has developed rapidly. From 1998 to 2004, the average annual growth rates of domestic CNC machine tool production and consumption were 39.3% and 34.9%, respectively. Despite this, the development momentum of imported machine tools is still strong. Since 2002, China has become the world's largest the main body of the machine tool consumer and the largest importer of machine tools for three consecutive years. In 2004, China's machine tool mainframe consumption reached US$9.46 billion. The gap between foreign high-end and large-scale CNC machine tools selves' and research and development is more obvious. More than 70% of such equipment and most of the functional components are heavily replying on import. 


  It can be seen that domestic CNC machine tools, especially medium and high-end CNC machine tools, is still in short of the market competitiveness. The main reason is that the research and development depth of domestic CNC machine tools is not enough, the manufacturing level is still backward, service awareness and capacity are in scarcity, CNC,and there is less effect in promoting the system production application and less talents in numerical control . We should clearly understand the situation, fully understand the shortcomings of domestic CNC machine tools, strive to develop advanced technologies, and increase technical innovation and training services to shorten the gap with developed countries.


  Recently, with the economic development of China, it has also attracted the attention of some major machine tool manufacturers in the world. In 2000, the largest machine tool manufacturer “Mazak” set up a joint CNC machine tool venture in Yinchuan, China. It is said that the manufacturing level is quite high, claiming to be "Intelligent, networked" factories, synchronized with the world.


  At present, the state has formulated some policies to encourage nationals to use domestic CNC machine tools, and various manufacturers are also trying to catch up. The largest domestic machine tool is the military industry. In a purchase plan, 80% of products are imported because the domestic machine tools can't meet the needs. This trend will not change in the next five years. However, as far as the domestic needs are concerned, China's CNC machine tools can now meet the orders of middle and low-end products. We should clearly understand the situation, fully understand the shortcomings of domestic CNC machine tools, strive to develop advanced technologies, and increase technical innovation and training services to shorten the gap with developed countries.
